Alexandria police officers shot a man who was allegedly armed in a residential building.

Two officers responded to call for a burglary inside a building at 301 North Beauregard Street about 3:15 a.m. Friday, Alexandria police say.

The officers encountered a suspect armed with two weapons, including a firearm, police spokespersons said. Officers engaged with the man, then shot him, Alexandria police spokesperson Lt. Courtney Valentine said.

It's unclear if the shooting occurred in an apartment or elsewhere.

The man was taken to a hospital in stable condition, according to Valentine. No officers were injured.

State police will investigate the shooting, per protocol, Valentine said.

The officers are on administrative leave.
