Police Investigate Shooting Outside Funeral Service at Methodist Church in Frederick

Police said 2 people were injured and they are searching for a suspect

Police are investigating after a shooting outside a church in Frederick, Maryland, where a funeral was taking place. News4’s Darcy Spencer reports.

Two people were injured after a shooting outside the Jackson Chapel United Methodist Church in Frederick, Maryland, the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office said.

The sheriff’s office said it responded Saturday at about 2:45 p.m. to reports of an active shooter at the church located at 5609 Ballenger Creek Pike where they found two victims.

Both shooting victims were taken to a hospital with injuries not considered to be life-threatening, the sheriff's office said.

A manhunt is underway for the suspected gunman after the shooter fled from the scene in a vehicle.

Police released a photo of a suspect believed to be involved in the shooting.

Police said the shooting in the church parking lot likely stemmed from an altercation between multiple people at the church, where a funeral service was underway.

That funeral service was for 24-year-old Trevor Frazier, one of the victims of a double homicide in Capitol Heights on April 7.

Maryland State Police, the Frederick Police Department, and the Division of Fire & Rescue Services assisted with the response to Saturday's shooting.
