Police Investigate Fatal Shooting in Southwest DC

A man died Tuesday afternoon in a shooting on Irvington Street in southwest Washington. The gunfire prompted a response from the new police chief. News4’s Shomari Stone reports.

Someone shot a man to death in southwest D.C. Tuesday afternoon, police said.

“It looks like a number of shots were fired,” Police Chief Peter Newsham said.

The man was shot in the 100 block of Irvington Street SW.

“There were a number of people out here at the time, so our detectives are still out here interviewing people,” Newsham said.

The victim was taken to a hospital where he died.
