Police Find 3 Dead in Vienna Home

Investigators believe there was a domestic conflict

VIENNA, Va. -- Three people were found dead in a Vienna home near the Wolf Trap Farm Park for the Performing Arts, police said.

Preliminary evidence indicates there was a domestic conflict in the home, and three people were shot, Officer Don Gotthardt said.

A family member called the Fairfax County Police Department to report a death at the home in the 9600 block of Cinnamon Creek Drive about 9:20 a.m. Tuesday, police said. When officers arrived, they searched the house and found the bodies of Tom and Rachel Appleberry, both 81, and their 53-year-old son, Thomas Jr., who had been living at his parents home.

Investigators believe the incident was a domestic double homicide and suicide and there is no threat to the larger community. Investigators believe Tom Appleberry Sr. shot his wife, then his son and finally himself, police said.

The couple’s daughter received a phone call to check on her parents and her brother. She found them dead and called police.
