Washington, D.C. Mayor Vincent Gray unveiled plans Saturday for a new gateway pavilion on the St. Elizabeths East Campus in Congress Heights.
The project, set to be completed next summer, will serve as a temporary commercial hub on the campus, hosting a farmers’ market, casual dining and other cultural and artistic events.
A larger redevelopment of St. Elizabeths East is set to bring retail and residential space to the campus by 2015. A new Coast Guard headquarters is scheduled to open on the West Campus in May 2013.
The contract for the gateway pavilion project was awarded to three firms: KADCON, Davis Brody Bond and Robert Silman Associates.
