One Killed in Head-on Collision Between SUV, Public Bus

SUV driver may have suffered medical emergency before crash

DAMASCUS, Md. -- An SUV collided head on with a public bus in Montgomery County, killing one and sending two others to the hospital, officials said.

The driver of the SUV, 61-year-old Alfred Burnett Weedon, of Montgomery Village, died shortly after the crash, which occurred early Tuesday afternoon in the 23800 block of Woodfield Road, county spokeswoman Bonnie Ayers said. The bus driver, 64-year-old Roberto Pinedo, of Gaithersburg, and one passenger on the bus, 74-year-old Conchita Larion, were taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Ayers said. The two other people on the Ride On bus refused transport.

Weedon may have suffered a medical emergency, causing him to lose control, said Capt. Oscar Garcia, of the county fire department. He was in cardiac arrest when police arrived at the scene and was pronounced dead at an area hospital.

Police are investigating the crash.
