One College Student Dead, Another in Jail, After Early Morning Fight

A young Maryland woman is in custody, accused of fatally stabbing a fellow college student early Sunday morning.

Police in Frostburg, Md., went to a home on Maple Street about 1:30 a.m. and found 19-year-old Kortneigh McCoy bleeding in the street. McCoy, of Baltimore, was taken to an area hospital where she was pronounced dead.

McCoy got into a fight with several people inside the home, police said. When she left, 23-year-old Shanee Liggins followed her outside and stabbed her, police said.

Liggins, of Waldorf, was arrested and charged with first- and second-degree murder. Police have not revealed a motive for the stabbing at this time and said the investigation is ongoing.

Both women were students at Frostburg State University.

McCoy, a sophomore, was a residence assistant at Simpson Hall and a member of United Voices Under God's Dominion, according to the school.

In a statement, the school said it hopes the entire university community can look out for one another as they cope with the tragedy. Grief counselors will be available to anyone who needs to speak with one.

A memorial service for McCoy took place Sunday on the Frostburg State University campus.

In Septemeber, a Bowie State student allegedly stabbed and killed her roommate in a dorm, according to police.
