WASHINGTON -- Two eastbound lanes of New York Avenue are closed due to a water main break at Montana Avenue in Northeast.
The lanes are closed from Montana to Blandensburg Road until further notice.
Crews are working to repair the 12-inch main on New York Avenue near Montana Avenue in Northeast. The estimated repair time was 7 a.m., but as of 3 p.m., crews were still working and had no updated finish time.
The closures caused major rush-hour delays Monday evening and could affect the Tuesday evening commute.
The following detours are suggested:
- Rhode Island Avenue east to southbound South Dakota Avenue to eastbound New York Avenue.
- Florida Avenue southeast to Benning Road east to Interstate 295.
- Florida Avenue southeast to 14th Street NE south to Maryland Avenue. Take a left onto Maryland and then another left onto Bladensburg Road. At the intersection of Bladensburg and New York Avenue, take a right.
