National Archives to Broadcast Inaugural Swearing-in Live

WASHINGTON -- Among its events to celebrate the inauguration of President-elect Barack Obama, the National Archives will broadcast the swearing-in ceremony and parade live in the William G. McGowan Theater beginning at 11:30 a.m. Jan. 20.
 
The National Archives is presenting a series of free public programs on presidential transitions in the McGowan Theater.
 
The Charles Guggenheim Center for the Documentary Film will present archival footage of past ceremonial inaugural events at noon Jan. 13-16 and Jan. 19.
 
A panel of scholars and former White House staff will discuss successful transitioning at 7 p.m. Jan. 15.
 
At noon on Jan. 23, Bradley H. Patterson will discuss his book about how the offices of the White House staff support the president, "To Serve the President."
 
From Jan. 12 through Jan. 25, an exhibition entitled "Taking the Oath" highlights the evolution of the oath of office and the taking of the oath.
