Two men who may have been sitting or sleeping on park benches were killed after an SUV plowed into Monroe Park in downtown D.C. the night of Wednesday, July 10, 2019, police said. News4’s Mark Segraves has the story.
A driver is charged with murder after his SUV slammed into a downtown D.C. park, killing two people, police say.
Jeoffrey Richard Williams, 57, of D.C., has been charged with two counts of second degree murder, U.S. Park Police say.
Jesus Antonio Llanes-Datil, 63, and Thomas Dwight Spriggs, 42, were sitting in a park at the corner of Pennsylvania Avenue and 21st Street NW around 11:30 p.m. on July 10, police said.
Williams, driving a Yukon XL SUV, veered off Pennsylvania Avenue and careened through the park, striking both victims, police said at the time.

Llanes-Datil and Spriggs died at the scene. Williams was critically injured, according to police.
Three benches were destroyed in the crash, leaving just splinters and pieces of concrete.
An arrest warrant was issued in the case Thursday, about two months after the crash. Williams was arrested without incident, U.S. Park Police said.
