Montgomery County Lifeguard Saves Child From Drowning

An 18-year-old lifeguard saved a child at the Stonebridge Community Pool in Gaithersburg, Maryland Monday, authorities say. News4’s Meagan Fitzgerald has the details.

A quick-thinking lifeguard saved a child from drowning at the Stonebridge Community Pool in Montgomery County, Maryland, on Monday.

The lifeguard thought the child was trying to get something from the bottom of the pool, but took action when the child didn't return to the surface quickly.

Authorities who arrived on-scene after the 911 call said the 18-year-old dove in, pulled the child out of the water and immediately performed CPR.

Without the lifeguard, first responders say the child would not be alive today.

“You can’t become a bigger hero than that, than actually taking part in saving someone’s life,” said Kelvin Thomas of the Montgomery County Fire Department.
