Montgomery Co. Holds Special Election

County council seat up for grabs

ROCKVILLE, Md. -- Voters are going to the polls in Montgomery County for a special election to fill an open seat on the county council.

The candidates in Tuesday's general election for the District 4 seat are Republican Robin Ficker, an advocate for lower taxes; Green Party candidate George Gluck, a software consultant; and Democrat Nancy Navarro, a Board of Education member.

The seat became vacant when Councilman Donald Praisner died in January, after colon cancer surgery. He had won a special election last spring to fill the position that his wife, Marilyn, held for 17 years until she died.

District 4 includes all or parts of Aspen Hill, Burtonsville, Calverton, Colesville, Fairland, Olney, Sandy Spring, Silver Spring, Wheaton and White Oak.

Polls opened at 7 a.m. and close at 8 p.m.
