Mileage Tax Proposed in Loudoun County

Tax Would Provide Funds for Transportation Projects

A new proposal to raise money for transportation projects in Virginia is raising some eyebrows.

Loudoun County Delegate David Poisson proposed a mileage tax to raise revenue at a time when the state is facing almost a billion-dollar budget deficit, he said.

Poisson wants the drivers who use the roads the most to pay the most for them, but it's unclear how a mileage tax would be enforced.

The proposed tax would only apply to Virginia residents and not drivers living out of state, which some opponents say is not fair.
