Metro to Pull 4000-Series Rail Cars to Make Safety Checks

After a Metro rider recently captured video of an open door on a moving Metrorail car, Metro decided to remove some of its least reliable cars from the tracks for safety reasons. Transportation Reporter Adam Tuss has the story.

About 100 Metro rail cars will be pulled from the tracks after recent problems in which doors opened on moving trains, Metro said Wednesday.

The cars to be removed are all 4000-series cars. Metro said they'll be removed out of an abundance of caution.

A video from one rider showed a train travelling with an open door, WTOP.com reported last week.

Metro will conduct a safety review of those rail cars through the weekend. If they don't find any problems, they'll put the cars back into service next week.
