Memorial Day Events Around the DC Area Pay Tribute, Offer Family Fun

Thousands of people attended a Memorial Day parade Monday morning in Rockville. News4’s Aimee Cho speaks with participants and spectators about what it meant to them.

Mark Memorial Day at one of these local parades or events.

National Memorial Day Parade: There are many local parades to choose from, but the biggie is along the mall. The 2017 parade will kick off at 2 p.m. at 7th Street and Constitution Avenue, with Ken Burns among the grand marshals. Celebrity guests include Miss America 2017, Savvy Shields; musical guests include Daughtry and the U.S.O. Show Troupe. If you go, be aware that there will be plenty of road closures to deal with; see a list here.

Falls Church Memorial Day Festival & Parade: In addition to a parade, events include a fun run, a veterans ceremony, kids' activities, food and more. The parade begins at 2 p.m., but there's plenty to do before that. See the 2017 schedule here.

Viva Vienna: Head to Vienna for a Memorial Day tribute, as well as music, rides, crafts, food and a kids' stage. See the entertainment lineup here and the full schedule here.

Rockville Memorial Day Ceremony and Parade: More than 60 parade units will roll through Rockville, including marching bands, drill and majorette units, floats and more, planners say. Find more information here.
