Maryland Lawmakers Consider Statewide Disposable Bag Fee

Prince George’s County Bureau Chief Tracee Wilkins talks to a Maryland state delegate sponsoring new legislation to charge shoppers for using plastic or paper bags.

Maryland lawmakers are considering a disposable bag fee for the entire state.

Friday the House of Delegates discussed a bill that would require shoppers to pay a nickel for paper or plastic bags.

Montgomery County has its own bag fee that overrides any statewide law, so if Maryland passes the law, shoppers in Montgomery County would not have to pay the fee.
