Three Fires Reported Within an Hour in Prince George's County

A Fort Washington family has been forced from their home tonight by a raging fire. Firefighters say at one point the fire consumed nearly the entire home. It was just one of several fires that kept crews busy today. News4’s Derrick Ward has more from Fort Washington, Maryland.

Prince George's County firefighters battled three separate house fires Sunday that left at least one family displaced.

Around 1:30 p.m. Sunday, firefighters were called to the 470 block of Mann Street in Capitol Heights. Authorities say smoke activated an alarm, and the fire was extinguished within 20 minutes of firefighters' arrival. The occupants, a woman and her two young children, were transported to a shelter.

A small fire was reported at a townhouse in the 3400 block of Little Hill Lane in District Heights at around 1:45 p.m. That fire was quickly extinguished, leaving about $400 in damage.

Then, at 2:20 p.m. firefighters were called to another fire, this one in the 3400 block of Gennene Lane in Fort Washington. When they arrived, they discovered a blaze spreading rapidly throughout a two-story building. Authorities say the damage is so severe the building's occupants will be displaced.

Nobody was injured during any of the fires. Their causes are still under investigation.
