Maryland House Votes to Raise Gas Tax

Measure now goes to the state Senate

It’s a move that could generate billions for transportation projects, but it could also mean an increase on the price at the pump for Maryland drivers.

Maryland's House of Delegates voted Friday to raise gas taxes, a measure that would add about 12 cents per gallon to gas prices by 2015.

The bill now goes to the state Senate.

The gas-tax bill would generate hundreds of millions of dollars to pay for Maryland transportation projects by implementing a new sales tax on gas. The higher taxes would be phased in over several years.
