Police are investigating a fatal shooting Wednesday night in Germantown, Maryland. News4’s David Culver spoke with a neighbor who helped the victim.

A man has died after he was shot Wednesday night in Germantown, Maryland.

Police were called about 7:15 p.m. to the 18600 block of Sage Way, near Gunners Branch Park, after a shooting was reported. Officers and an EMS crew found 30-year-old Robert Wayne King lying near a home with apparent gunshot wounds, Montgomery County Police said. King was rushed to a hospital and pronounced dead.

A neighbor heard the King's pleas for help.

"As I’m walking down the sidewalk, I hear somebody who says, ‘Please help me, please help me,'" the man said. He asked that his identity be withheld.

The neighbor said he asked King if he knew who shot him.

"'No, I don't know who did it,'" the neighbor said the victim told him. "And then he stopped talking."

The area around one home was cordoned off. Neighbors said residents had a troubled past, and police said they previously had dealt with drug-related issues there.

No information on the shooting victim was released immediately.

The neighbor who found King said he was shocked.

“I’m sure that my court’s not the only one that has problems, but I never thought that it was going to get to this level, where somebody actually gets shot," he said.

No information on a suspect was released. The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 240-773-5070, or, to remain anonymous, 1-866-411-TIPS. A reward of as much as $10,000 is offered.
