Friends and family members consoled each other at the scene of a shooting that claimed the lives of two men in Southeast D.C. Monday.
The shooting happened just after 3 p.m. in the 700 block 13th Street SE, just a block off of Pennsylvania Avenue.
One of the men died on the scene. The other was taken to a hospital in critical condition, where he later died. Their names have not yet been released.
According to authorities, the gunmen apparently walked through a tunnel leading to the Potomac Gardens apartment complex parking lot and opened fire.

“[The victims] were apparently washing cars in the parking lot and some individuals came through from this side of the complex through a tunnel area underneath one of the buildings and opened fire. It appears that these two individuals were targeted in particular,” D.C. police Commander Ralph McLean said.
Police said the two victims were targeted by the shooters.

The father of one of the victims said he had dropped his son off at the complex where he used to live at 1 p.m., and when he returned to pick him up, it was a crime scene.
He declined to speak on camera.
Detectives found dozens of casings on the ground.
The shooting happened at a busy time, as people walked dogs and kids returned from school.
“[There were] a lot of people out. There were a lot of kids out. It was brazen,” McLean said.
Detectives spent hours searching for evidence and a motive. Police said they found evidence showing there was more than one gun.
So far, no arrests have been made.
