A vigilant witness helped police nab a man suspected in a stabbing at a Silver Spring apartment early Thursday morning.
Officers were called to the 8200 block of Piney Branch Road just after midnight for a report of a stabbing in an apartment above the El Sitio Restaurant. When officers arrived, they found the victim in the second floor hallway suffering from multiple stab wounds.
Montgomery County Police say the witness saw the suspect flee the scene on foot and followed him in their vehicle. The witness was able to flag down responding officers a short distance from the scene, and 31-year-old Ulises A. Blanco-Melgar was taken into custody.
As of Thursday evening, the victim remained in critical condition at a local hospital.
Blanco-Melgar, of no fixed address, is facing one count of attempted first-degree murder, one count of first-degree assault and one count of second-degree assault.
He's being held behind bars without bond and will be in court Friday for a bond review.
