Kelly, Brown to Sit for First Preseason Game

Injuries will keep at least a couple of Redskins out of the first preseason game.

Wide receiver Malcolm Kelly will miss the game with hamstring issues, and offensive tackle Jammal Brown has a hip problem that will prevent him playing.

Brown was expected to get a shot in his hip today, head coach Mike Shanahan said. Brown missed all of last season in New Orleans with a hip injury.

Clinton Portis watched most of practice with a tight groin, but that's not believed to be a serious injury.

Keep an eye on wide receiver Brandon Banks Friday. The undrafted rookie out of Kansas State is expected to play a big role on special teams against the Buffalo Bills. Shanahan likes him and will give him opportunities to show off his stuff in the return game.

At 5-feet-7-inches tall and 155 pounds, Banks may be the smallest player in the NFL.
