DC Council Hears Heated Debate on Tipping Referendum

Hundreds of people filed into the D.C. Council’s public hearing Monday on the future of Initiative 77, the ballot measure to raise the minimum wage of tipped workers in the District. Voters overwhelmingly approved the measure this summer, but some in the restaurant industry say it will hurt the wallets of owners and servers alike. Lawmakers are considering overturning the rule.
