8 firefighters battling flames at a home on Patridge Place in University Park, Maryland on Monday were injured. All the injuries were minor, and all are expected to recover.
Eight firefighters suffered injuries that included burns, sprains and lacerations at a house fire Sunday night in University Park.
The blaze started at about 11 p.m. in the 7000 block of Partridge Place. Fire officials said the fire was well under way when they arrived.
A fire department spokesman said they began fighting the fire with water the fire engines carry on-board, but had to withdraw to wait for an adequate water supply to be established. It's not clear yet why there was not an adequate water supply.
The husband, wife and three children -- ages 6, 7 and 9 -- all made it out safely thanks to a working smoke alarm, according to fire officials. Fire fighters from Hyattsville, College Park and Montgomery County all assisted in fighting the blaze.
No serious injuries were reported. The fire created $700,000 in damages. No word yet on what caused it.
