Home surveillance video in Silver Spring captures a burglar breaking into a home on Brunett Avenue.
Home surveillance video caught a break-in and gave police a reason to believe it's linked to a nearby burglary.
At 11:25 a.m. Monday, a resident of the 9500 block of McAlpine Road in Silver Spring observed a burglary in process and called the police. The resident saw a man get out of the passenger door of a parked green SUV and approach a neighbor's house. He was seen knocking on the door, and when it appeared that he had not gotten a response, proceeded to kick in the door, police said.
He was seen entering and then running from the house to the SUV with property in his hands, police said. The man and the driver were last seen driving along East Franklin Avenue.
Police arrived shortly after and the homeowner confirmed there had been a burglary. Officers and a K-9 unit searched the area but couldn't find the men or the SUV.
About 20 minutes later, police responded to a residential alarm in the 1000 block of Brunett Avenue. The front door was open, and it was evident that there had been a forced entry into the home, police said.
That homeowner confirmed that there had been a break-in. In surveillance video from that home, a man is seen knocking on the door, kicking it in after there was no answer and entering the residence, police said. The video then shows the suspect running up the stairs. There was evidence of the suspect digging through the homeowner's belonging, but at this time, nothing appears to have been taken.
A green SUV is also caught on the homeowner's hidden video.
The suspect that entered that residence is described as an African-American man, about 25 years old, 5-feet-9-inches tall, with a mustache and goatee, police said. The video did not capture a clear shot of the driver of the green SUV.
