Woman Shot in the Head in Greenbelt Was Married to Famous Ghanaian Actor

Bettie Jenifer married Ghanian actor Chris Attoh less than a year ago, multiple outlets report

Police continue to search for a gunman who fatally shot the wife of a famous Ghanian actor in the head in the parking lot of a Maryland office building Friday.

The woman, identified as 44-year-old Bettie Jenifer of Bowie, had left the office in the 6300 block of Ivy Lane and was walking to her car when a man armed with a handgun approached her, the Greenbelt Police Department said. When she tried to run away, the man followed her and fired off multiple rounds, with at least one shot striking her. He then fled in a vehicle.

Officers responded about 5:10 p.m. and found the woman suffering from a gunshot wound. She was declared dead at the scene.

Co-workers said the victim worked at a temporary staffing agency on the first floor.

The shooter was described as black and having a thin build with black hair. He was wearing dark clothing and may have been in a blue car.

Jenifer was married to Chris Attoh, an actor and TV host who is well-known in Ghana. The two married in October, following Attoh's divorce from his first wife, multiple outlets report.

Attoh posted the following to Twitter before the shooting: "When it comes to relationships, remaining faithful is never an option but a priority. Loyalty is ever..."

A spokesperson for Attoh's talent agency gave the following statement:

"Waka Talent Agency is saddened by the death of Bettie Jenifer, who was married to our client, Mr. Chris Attoh. We would like to note that the family has requested to mourn in private and therefore will not be doing any press interviews or commenting on the death."

Police have not named a suspect or motive in the case.
