Glenmont Metro Station Closed After Track Fire Reported

Riders had to leave the Glenmont Metro Station after a fire on the tracks filled the station with smoke. It has since reopened. News4’s Jackie Bensen reports on the response.

The Glenmont Metro station was closed Monday night after a track fire erupted.

A fire occurred about 8:45 p.m. on a track between the station and the railyard, a Metro spokesman said. Smoke entered the station, and passengers needed to be evacuated, he said. No injuries were reported.

The Montgomery County Fire Department activated ventilation fans, which helped pull smoke out of the tunnel.

The station had reopened as of 9:45 p.m.

Shuttle buses served the Forest Glen, Wheaton and Glenmont stations, Metro said.
