Fire Breaks Out at DC Gas Station; 2 Hospitalized

Two people were hospitalized after a fire broke out inside a gas station repair shop in Southeast D.C. on Saturday.

The fire broke out inside the service garage on the 3000 block on King Avenue SE, DC Fire and EMS posted on Twitter. One person was taken to a hospital for serious but non-life threatening injuries and a firefighter was also hospitalized due to the heat, the fire department said.

Pictures from DC Fire and EMS show flames and huge plumes of smoke coming out of the garage.

Once the fire was extinguished, firefighters had to stablize a charred car that was still on the lift inside the garage.

DC Fire and EMS investigators said a work light inside the repair shop fell down and ignited fuel that was being drained from a vehicle's gas tank.
