For Your Weekend: St. Patrick's Day, ‘Warriors of Wakanda,' Live Music, More

Here's the best and brightest for your weekend in and around D.C.: a "Black Panther" themed African art tour, ARTECHOUSE's new Cherry Blossom exhibit, endless St. Patrick's Day beer, whisky and dancing opportunities, a Howard alum brings his musical to life and more.

Cherry Blossom Festival Begins, Frozen-Style

It’s way too cold to celebrate the official beginning of the National Cherry Blossom Festival outdoors, but you can get the whole experience with minimal exposure to the elements.

ARTECHOUSE’s “Cherry Blossom Dream”
Friday, Saturday and Sunday near L’Enfant Plaza

The immersive art gallery just opened its cherry blossom exhibit, giving a digital view of the blooms. Preview it for yourself here:

ARTECHOUSE

I was able to #BOnTop of getting a first look at the new installation, which includes the work of artist groups including NOIRFLUX, StoryLab and more. The new digital experience features five activations where art and tech intersect with Japanese culture and tradition.

Nothing screams "spring is here" more in D.C. than the sight of cherry blossoms! As soon as you walk into the main gallery, Sakura Yume, you'll experience a floating environment where koi fish and blossom petals react to your presence and movement.
ARTECHOUSE
Koi Pie is an incredible interactive 3D sculpture where koi fish interact with your movement in the pond.

The latest installation at ARTECHOUSE, which is at 1238 Maryland Ave. SW, is part of the official National Cherry Blossom Festival activities! Go here for the full guide.

While taking in the art, you can experience even more digital magic through augmented reality, which is featured in the ARTECHOUSE app. ARTECHOUSE also offers the first-ever augmented reality cocktail bar in the United States. (The bar operates daily during evening hours).

While browsing, don't forget to walk through the narrow, lantern-lit "street" that responds to your footsteps. It's super cool!
ARTECHOUSE
One of the best features in the new installation is the opportunity to try a unique immersive dining experience. Bloom, takes place weekly on Thursday, Friday and Saturday during the first evening session at 5:30 p.m. Diners will be able to enjoy a bento-box meal enhanced through interactive table projections and sound elements that change throughout the meal. Go here for more information on how to purchase tickets.

Sakura Yume//Cherry Blossom Dream is open to all ages. However, evening sessions are 21+
