A U.S. Park Police helicopter was the first to spot a massive fire that displaced more than dozen people from rowhouses in northwest Washington Friday. News4’s Darcy Spencer has the story
A fire burned through 4 row houses in northwest Washington on Friday.
The fire in the 900 block of Decatur Street NW just off Georgia Avenue went to two alarms just before 5 p.m. Friday. Four rowhouses went up in smoke. The blaze went to two alarms, bringing 125 firefighters to the scene.
When they arrived, fire officials said the flames were well advanced, already from basement to roof.
Their efforts were made difficult by high temperatures on Friday. Two firefighters were treated for heat exhaustion.
When the smoke cleared, 13 people lost their homes. The cause of the fire was still under investigation late Friday.
