Fire in Metro Station Disrupts Service on 3 Train Lines

Smoke fills the tunnels of one of Metro’s busiest stations, Gallery Place-Chinatown in the heart of rush hour. An update on Yellow and Green line service from News4’s Shomari Stone.

The Gallery Place-Chinatown Metro station was temporarily closed during rush hour Monday evening because of a small fire. 

Trains on the Green and Yellow lines are bypassing the station. Metro advised riders on both lines to expect delays. Red Line service in the station has resumed. 

One person who may have inhaled smoke was taken to a hospital for evaluation, the D.C. fire department said. No one else was hurt, the department said.

The fire was extinguished, Metro said about 6:25 p.m.
