Man Killed in Double Shooting at Capitol Hill Area Apartment

A man was killed and his girlfriend was wounded in a shooting at a condo complex in Southeast D.C. Saturday morning. News4’s Pat Collins has the story.

A man is dead and a woman was injured in a shooting in the Capitol Hill neighborhood area, police say.

The man was identified as 37-year-old Richfield Chang of Southeast.

Police responded to reports of the sound of gunshots about midnight inside the Jenkins Row apartments on 1391 Pennsylvania Avenue Southeast, also near Navy Yard, police say.

Officers found Chang and his girlfriend had been shot multiple times. The woman was conscious and breathing but suffering life-threatening injuries. Chang was unconscious and not breathing.

Both were rushed to a hospital. Staff tried to save Chang's life, but he was pronounced dead.

Chang's girlfriend is in the hospital recovering from the gunshot wounds.

She said the shooter was supposedly a friend, and when they saw he had a gun, they asked him to leave the apartment, but he opened fire instead.

She said the couple planned to get married.

Investigators found marijuana and $100,000 in cash, police sources said.
