DJ Stabbed Multiple Times in Dupont Circle Robbery

News4’s Mark Segraves talks to a friend of a local DJ who was stabbed multiple times during a robbery in the Dupont Circle neighborhood last week. The attack comes as violent crime in the city is on the rise.

Someone stabbed a D.C. DJ during a robbery in Dupont Circle Thursday night.

Nestor Lopez, known as DJ Nestor, was getting into his car after leaving a club in the neighborhood when someone put a knife to his throat and demanded money. Lopez complied, but the man stabbed him repeatedly in the head, face and neck anyway.

The attack comes as violent crime is on the rise in D.C. Two more homicides were reported over the weekend, bringing the total for the year to 93 – a 23 percent increase over last year. Armed robberies are up 17 percent, and assaults with guns are up 16 percent.

Police have increased patrols in neighborhoods seeing most of the violence, but few have been immune from the growing problem.

Friends of Lopez, who DJs on the radio and at clubs, said they hope he recovers quickly and hope they aren’t the next victim.

A father of two, Lopez is out of the hospital but unable to work. He does not have health insurance. Friends set up a GoFundMe page to help with expenses.
