Department of Labor Building Closed Friday Due to Fire

Employees who work at the Frances Perkins Building located at 200 Constitution Avenue NW will be on administrative leave Friday

The U.S. Department of Labor building is closed Friday due to overnight fire damage.

News4 is working to learn more about the fire. However, labor officials said they still planned to hold their scheduled news media briefings in the building Friday to discuss findings of the Employment Situation Report.

Employees who work at the Frances Perkins Building located at 200 Constitution Avenue NW will be on administrative leave Friday.

Telework-eligible employees who are scheduled to telework Friday must telework the entire workday, request leave, or a combination of both.

Emergency employees are expected to report to their worksites unless otherwise directed.

Department of Labor employees should check with their supervisor or DOL.gov for updates.

Shortly before 9 a.m., the department announced the economy added 165,000 jobs during April. The jobless rate fell to 7.5 percent. (READ MORE ON THE JOBS REPORT HERE.)
