Officials have removed a traffic camera at East Capitol Street and Southern Avenue on the Maryland side following inquiries from WTOP and News4.
WTOP first reported the questionable location of the red light and speed camera, that would give drivers tickets in the District.
Contractors were seen disassembling the camera, which was installed at the site in 1999, Tuesday afternoon.
"Every motorist who was ticketed here should be refunded with late fees and penalties," John Townsend with AAA Mid-Atlantic said.
Joanne Brown has received three tickets from that camera alone and is happy to see it go.
"I'm a Maryland taxpayer, so why should they have their camera on Maryland property? Maryland doesn't have their cameras in D.C.!"
Since the camera came into question, Metropolitan Police have defended ticketing, saying the violators were captured in D.C. In a statement, they reiterated safety is their number one priority.
