D.C. Fire Lt. Kevin McRae Honored, Remembered at Funeral

The city paused Friday to remember and salute the 100th D.C. firefighter to die in the line of duty. Lt. Kevin McRae collapsed while fighting a fire in the Shaw neighborhood. Mark Segraves reports.

Family, friends and fellow firefigters said goodbye Friday to a District of Columbia firefighter who died after battling a high-rise apartment fire. 

The funeral service for Lt. Kevin McRae was held at the D.C. Armory at 11 a.m. Following the funeral service, a funeral procession for McRae traveled through the District from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m.

McRae collapsed last Wednesday after helping to extinguish an apartment fire. He was taken to a hospital, where he died.  

The 44-year-old McRae joined the department in 1989 after serving as a fire cadet in high school. He was the 100th District firefighter to die in the line of duty.
