DC Council Approves Mobile Betting App Contract

D.C. is just a few months away from legalized sports betting, but there’s still a lot to be worked out, including when a mobile app is ready to use. News4’s Mark Segraves reports one thing we know for sure is which teams you won’t be allowed to bet on.

The D.C. Council approved the mobile sports betting contract Tuesday evening.

The council voted 7-5 in favor of the sole-source contract.

The council has been divided over whether to award the lucrative contract to operate the District’s mobile betting app to the same company that operates the lottery.

D.C. officials expect legalized sports betting will bring in tens of millions of dollars in tax revenue.

Venues like Nationals Park and Capital One Arena also will be able to offer sports betting.
