DC Club Evacuated After Part of Roof Deck Buckles, Shifts

A D.C. night club has been evacuated Sunday after the building's roof deck shifted and buckled.

D.C. Fire and EMS said a large number of people were at the Uproar club in the 600 block of Florida Avenue NW. Firefighters were called to the scene close to 7 p.m. and evacuated the building.

No one was injured, fire officials said.

Someone who was on the roof at the time told News4 the roof was crowded, but the crowd didn't seem excessive. He said the roof deck seemed to shift a bit and the owner of the club immediately moved people off of the roof when it happened.

A fire department task force was assessing the structural integrity of the club and a building next door. Fire officials later said floor joists were compromised from excess weight, causing the roof to bow.

The 600 and 700 blocks of Florida Ave. NW is closed in both directions as police and fire investigate the issue, police said.
