Crews Rescue Person Who Fell Into Potomac River

A man who fell about 30 feet into the Potomac River was rescued via boats and helicopter, and was airlifted to a trauma center with a head injury Sunday afternoon.

Rescue boats from Montgomery County, Md., and Fairfax County, Va., converged on the scene between Great Falls and the American Legion Bridge Sunday afternoon. The U.S. Park Eagle helicopter also responded.

Police said the victim fell into a rocky section of the river in Great Falls Park, near the Scott's Run Nature Preserve.

At about 6:30 p.m., authorities said the man had been rescued and was being treated for his head injury, which is described as life-threatening.
