15 people are displaced after an apartment fire Monday in Chillum, Maryland, Prince George’s Fire and EMS said. News4’s Dominique Moody reports.

Firefighters battled a fire at an apartment in Chillum, Maryland, early Monday morning.

Firefighters responded to a fire at Bellcrest Plaza in the 3500 block of Toledo Terrace, behind The Mall at Prince George’s, at about 2 a.m. The apartment is described as a three-story multi-family dwelling, according to Prince George’s County Fire and EMS.

Two firefighters were transported to the hospital for evaluation. No other injuries were reported.

A video shows orange flames and smoke pouring out of the building during the fire.

News4 spoke to a resident who has lived at the apartment for several years. She said she is still processing what happened.

“I mean, I couldn't believe how big the flames were and it was just spreading very quickly,” the resident said.

“I thought that we were going to have to leave our apartment because there were explosions,” the resident said. “We heard about three or four, just big loud booms."

Several units were damaged in the fire. Photos from the aftermath show charred wood at the top of the building and broken glass.

“It's very, very scary and these are old buildings, you know, and the wood is very old, so I can see how the fire spread so quickly. It did a lot of damage,” the resident said.

11 adults and four children have been displaced, according to firefighters.

Fire investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire.
