Coast Guard Rescues Woman after Fall on Cruise Ship

A woman had to be rescued from a cruise ship near Smith Point along the Potomac River late Saturday after she was injured in a fall on the vessel.

The U.S. Coast Guard said a crewmember aboard the Grandeur of the Seas contacted them around 10 p.m. They launched a rescue boat from Coast Guard Station St. Inigoes, located in southern Maryland on the west side of the Chesapeake Bay.

The 58-year-old woman and her husband were transported to the Point Lookout Marina. She was then airlifted to the Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore.

There is no word on her condition or the cause of the fall.
