Body Recovered at Tidal Basin During Cherry Blossom Festival

A man’s body was spotted in the water while thousands of people flocked to the Tidal Basin to see the cherry blossoms. News4’s Darcy Spencer reports.

A paddle boater discovered the body of a man in the water at Washington, D.C.'s Tidal Basin Saturday as thousands visited the spot for the annual Cherry Blossom Festival, police say.

D.C. police said the man fell into the water and his body was found near the paddle boat area of the partially man-made resevoir.

He was pronounced dead at 2:45 p.m. Saturday.

No further information was immediately available about the man's death. Police have not identified him yet.

Thousands of people crowded the basin to see the cherry blossom trees, many flying kites for the Blossom Kite Festival.
