Aviation Ed Offers Interactive Way for Students to Learn About Math, Science

A new program is helping some local Maryland students think outside the box. Aviation Ed uses interactive learning techniques to teach students about science and math. Prince George’s County Bureau reporter Zachary Kiesch has more on this different approach to teaching.

A new program is helping some local Maryland students think outside the box.

Fourth-grader Sophia Montgomery loves using her iPad to read.

“I like to read about the stars and planets,” she said.

She represents a generation of youngsters more accustomed to touch screens and apps then paper and pens, and educators are running with it.

At Shabach, an elementary school connected to the First Church of Glen Arden, Aviation Ed makes science and technology an interactive experience, making STEM cool and tapping into students’ imaginations. It exposes students to common core curriculum through aviation that doesn’t seem like classwork.
