Last season, the Nationals placed third baseman Ryan Zimmerman on the 15-day disabled list in late April and recalled their top prospect, Bryce Harper, to replace him.
This season, the Nationals placed Zimmerman on the 15-day disabled list in late April and recalled their top prospect, Anthony Rendon, to replace him.
Rendon made his major-league debut Sunday afternoon, but much like the game itself, it wasn't a memorable one as the Nationals fell to the Mets 2-0, finishing their six-game road trip with a 3-3 record.
Filling in for Zimmerman at third base, Rendon went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts, including the game-ending punchout when he was caught looking at a Bobby Parnell offering. In 14 games in AA Harrisburg, Rendon only struck out nine times.
He also committed one of Washington's three errors, but did make a nice catch in foul territory in the first inning.
Washington could only muster four hits off of five New York pitchers.
The Nationals return home Monday to open a seven-game homestand against the Cardinals, the teams' first matchup since last fall's NLDS.
