Abandoned Baby's Death Ruled Homicide

Infant died of hypothermia in January

The death of an infant found outside in northeast D.C. on one of the coldest nights of the year is now officially a homicide. Pat Collins has the latest on the investigation.

The death of an abandoned infant over the winter was ruled a homicide.

The girl was found late Jan. 15 alone outside in the 3000 block of Channing Street NE, wrapped only in a thin towel in temperatures below freezing. She died from exposure a short time later at a local hospital.

The medical examiner ruled the death a homicide caused by hypothermia.

Some neighborhood residents are haunted by the girl’s death, knowing she might have survived a milder night.

The towel the girl was wrapped in remains one of the few clues police have.

Police are offering a $25,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction. Anyone with information about the girl’s death should call police at 202-727-9099 or text a tip to 50411.
