Two More Fatal Shootings Amid DC Homicide Spike

Two men were killed and one was injured Monday in two separate shootings amid a spike in homicides in D.C.

Police responded to the 1400 block of Maryland Avenue NE about 5:30 p.m. for reports of a shooting. Police say they found one man unconscious and not breathing. He was later pronounced dead.

One man was killed and another was injured during a second shooting in Southeast, D.C.

Police were called to the 1500 block of 19th Street SE for reports of a shooting and found a man, who was later pronounced dead.

Another man left the scene of the shooting and went to a hospital, police say.

D.C. is grappling with a spike in homicides, police data shows. In 2017, 62 people were killed in the city between January and the end of July. This year, at least 90 people have been killed.
