A 17-year-old was arrested Tuesday on charges that he attacked three women who were walking or jogging at the Walkersville Community Park in Maryland.
Kelby Spence, of Walkersville, Maryland, is being charged as an adult with three counts of attempted second-degree rape and three counts of third-degree sexual offense.
Authorities say they linked an attack in the park last fall to more recent attack this month. On April 6, a 37-year-old woman was jogging in the park when she was grabbed from behind by a man who tried to pull down her pants.
She fought back, and a 50-year-old woman came to her aid and helped fight him off. The older woman used a cell phone to call 911, but was also assaulted by the man, authorities said.
Police said this case had many similarities to a similar attack last November. In that case, a 57-year-old woman was walking with her grandson on a path in the park when she was attacked from behind by a man. She was able to fight off the man and escaped.
State Police investigators say they determined the two cases were linked.
The two women attacked in April provided a description of the suspect to police, who developed a composite sketch.
Spence has been identified and charged with the sexual assaults in both incidents, police said.
He was arrested following a meeting at the Maryland State Police Frederick Barracks and was ordered held on a $175,000 bond.
