With 163rd Death, DC Marks Deadliest Year Since 2008

The number of homicides this year in the city has now become the highest it’s been since 2008. News4’s Jackie Bensen was at the scene on 4th Street SE this evening when a man became the 163rd homicide victim of 2019.

A man was killed in a brazen shooting in D.C. Monday afternoon.

Tyshaun Turner was shot in the 4200 block of 4th Street SE. The 27-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.

A second man also was shot and had non-life-threatening injuries.

Police officers who had just driven by the scene heard the shots.

There is a crime camera at the scene, which police will review.

Turner's death marks D.C.'s 163rd homicide of the year — marking the highest number of homicides in a year in the District since 2008.

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to contact police. A reward of up to $25,000 is offered.
