12-Year-Old Takes Unloaded Gun to School

Middle school student points unloaded gun at his head

A 12-year-old boy is facing gun charges after taking a handgun to school.

Prince William County police went to Potomac Middle School in Dumfries, Va., before 8 a.m. Monday and learned that the boy brought an unloaded gun to school.

The boy showed the gun to others at a bus stop before going to school, police said. Once at school, the boy pulled the gun and pointed it at his head, at which point a teacher took the gun from the student and took him to an office.

The student did not point the gun at anyone else, and no one was injured, police said.

Investigators believe the boy thought the gun was loaded and intended to kill himself at school, police said.

The boy will be charged with possession of a weapon on school property.
