Why Your Asthma Is Worse After a Thunderstorm

“Hundreds of people, about a day after a thunderstorm, will crowd in ERs, and they’re gasping for air,” Dr. Jackie Eghrari Sabet told News4’s Pat Lawson Muse. Thunderstorms can trigger asthma and allergies. “Thunder asthma” is caused by high thunderstorm winds that break pollen into smaller grains that can be easily inhaled. Rain and higher humidity also can worsen the mold spores that spark an asthma attack.
